Migrant Helpline Information Services

Asylum and immigration issues are topics of great interest to the public and frequently appear as major stories in the news media. To help the general public achieve a greater understanding of these complex and often difficult issues as well as endeavouring to promote a more positive image of asylum seekers and refugees the Information Team of Migrant Helpline carry out a range of activities and initiatives. These include providing speakers and presentations to many different community groups such as local authorities, educational and health organisations, religious groups, the Immigration Service the Police and so forth.

Working in partnership with Kent Police, Migrant Helpline run a series of four day placements for Police Probationers, offering the chance to observe all aspects of our operations. The team has developed a schools presentation programme which has been well received in the Kent and South London regions.

The Information Department is able to offer training in all areas relating to asylum. We have been able to spend time with welfare organisations and local authorities, offering advice regarding the needs and concerns of the asylum seekers and refugees who make use of their services.
