Asylum Seekers Accommodation Services

In October 2001, the government announced the launch of the Induction Centre network. Migrant Helpline established the UK's first Induction Centre which became operational in January 2002. The centre was established in order to provide emergency accommodation for newly arrived asylum seekers while they await dispersal to more permanent housing, providing a comprehensive information service to newly arrived asylum seekers and subsequently ensuring a good preparation for life post dispersal. The centre now serves as accommodation under the new asylum model (NAM) and its main functions are to:

  • Provide emergency accommodation in Kent and South London

  • Brief asylum seekers on their rights and responsibilities

  • Provide access to Primary Health care

  • Provide a dedicated Special Needs Caseworker

  • Operate a problem solving clinic

  • Facilitate client dispersal.
